Still staying strong and eating vegan
Did my yoga and and rooted pine today. I made vegan Christmas cookies today no real recipe. I just put some peanut butter, brown sugar, maple syrup, 2 bananas, some oatmeal, some unbleached flour, some Quaker oatmeal, 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda and a little bit of crisco. I baked it at 350 degrees for 12 minutes and they came out fantastic. Yesterday I had oatmeal for breakfast, a nut mix for a snack, a banana for another snack, peanut butter and jelly with dark chocolate almond milk, supper I had heavenly Thai pineapple rice, I also may have had a pumpkin granola bar at some time and maybe a fruit bar. It always hard for me to remember everything. Kind of a slow day. Thanks for reading and stay healthy.

11/17/11 So It's been two full days of veganism
Now I have two full days of being vegan under my belt along with doing yoga and chi gung again. Yesterday I had oatmeal with some chocolate almond milk for breakfast, an emerald nut blend for a mid morning snack, black bean and corn chowder leftover from last night, my next snack was dark chocolate almonds, and for super I had carrots and hummus along with my wife's stuffing concoction she used in her stuffed peppers. I also had some Arizona RX tea and some fruit juices along with a half gallon of water throughout the day. I am probably going to make a chi gung video but who knows will see how everything goes. Thanks for reading and stay healthy.

11/16/11 My favorite things that people say to vegans
Where do you get your protein?
Where do you get your calcium?
Why don't you move to Vermont or Massachusetts with the rest of the hippy tree huggers?
I'm going to make you a meat salad.
I'm going to eat nothing but meat around you and see how long you'll last.
I bet a could push you over because all vegans have no strength.
Oh you can only name one strong vegan.
I don't think you'll last to long.
I could never do that.
If my husband wanted to be vegan he would have to cook for himself.
Statement to others and their responses.
Me: There are no vegan items on this menu.
Response: Well I'll give you $10 and you can bring something vegan.
Other Response: Well they will have salad.

11/16/11 Day Two of Vegan Journey
Well yesterday I made it a full day eating nothing but vegan food. It was very difficult except when my wife made chocolate chip cookies that smelled so good but I resisted and had a frozen fruit bar. Today I continued my exercise regiment doing my favorite yoga poses and doing rooted pine qi gong, chi kung, or however you want to spell it. I was looking for chi gung videos to put on here but they don't have rooted pine at least no decent ones but if you want to learn how to do it Bob Cook teaches it at the Frackville Fitness Center on Tuesdays. Yesterday I had my fruit smoothie for breakfast, peanut butter and jelly with some almond milk for my mid morning snack, brussel sprouts with cashews, balsamic vinegar, and soy sauce for afternoon snack, black bean and corn chowder for supper and a fruit bar for an evening snack. I will say that I am feeling really great after the first day and full of energy. I'll put some of the recipes down later in the page. Thanks for reading and stay healthy.
The recipe for the corn and black bean chowder is something like what follows.
4 oz. corn
16 oz. black beans
2 cups soy milk
4 cups water
1 bag boiling bag brown rice
16 oz. tomatoes with chilies
Cook rice to package instructions then put everything into a pot and cook on medium heat for 15 minutes and enjoy. I personally would use a little less liquid but my wife made this and it is still pretty good.

The start of a new vegan journey
So for about the past 8 months I have cut most of my meat and dairy down to a minimum so after watching Forks over Knives I decided to switch to vegan. Over the past couple of days I have faltered a little but today I am going to try a hit it hard core. I had a fruit smoothie with bananas, orange juice and blueberry juice. It was excellent. I am also trying to stick to a more regimented exercise program that includes yoga and chi gong. This morning I did my normal yoga exercises of mountain, tree, warrior, snake, chupacabra (I don't remember how to spell that one and I am feeling to lazy today), plank, some other modified poses and corpse. After I finished I did rooted pine chi gong. I am doing all this to try and bring more balance into my life and be a healthier person. I figure eating healthy, exercise and proper breathing a long with my 5 days a week of drinking a beer or two should help to bring about a healthier me. I am hoping to encourage others to be healthier and possibly create a network of people who have some good vegan recipes, some different ideas on yoga and chi gong and I am also trying to get Captain Planet back on the air. I just think it was a good show with a good message and when I was watching Ben Ten with my kids last week they were eluding to the show. Today as I was taking my son to school I was seeing how much of the theme song I could remember and here is what I can think of. Captain Planet he's our hero going to cut pollution down to zero. He's our powers magnified and he's fighting on the planets side. Go Planet. I'll get you Captain Planet. We're the planeteers, you can be one too because saving the planet is up to you. That's about all I can remember because it has to be like 20 years or so since the show was on the air or I watched it. Well that's enough for my first post. Hope you enjoyed and stay healthy.
